BOOK PUBLISHERS DISCUSS WAYS TO GO GREEN
At the publishing industry's annual BookExpo America gathering this weekend, "green was the hot new color," according to Business Week's Hardy Green. Publishers heard from a range of speakers on how their industry could become more environmentally friendly. Workshops included "Climate Change and the Book Industry" and "Buying, Packaging & Publishing Green Books: The Publisher's Perspective," and one speaker told attendees that making one book produces 8.85 pounds of carbon emissions.

Amazon.com's Jeff Bezos (pictured at right) spoke about the company's Kindle e-book, which is an alternative to paper books. But the Kindle worries some publishing executives, the New York Times reports. These executives are concerned the Kindle's popularity may give Amazon leverage to ask publishers to cut prices.
